Are you a crazy person?

Some of us might take a great offense to that question! Others might laugh and say they can be some days!

Christian song writers Mercy Me, (writers of the wonderful song “I Can Only Imagine”) have written a song entitled “Crazy People.” Here’s the chorus:

Crazy people trusting Jesus
Following Him wherever He leads us
Kingdom seekers, walk-by-faith believers
Here’s the church, here’s the steeple
Here’s to all God’s crazy people

I think Christians should be crazy people. The number of times someone has looked at what Christians are doing in faith and shook their heads is likely too many to count. Yet God calls His people to do things that seem impossible, or perhaps just not logical. He invites us into a plan that is amazing, and often mind-blowing.

In Luke 1 Mary was a humble Jewish girl, getting ready for her wedding day. She’s probably busy thinking about her upcoming celebration and the future with her man Joseph. Then an angel shows up, and everything changes:

Luke 1:31: “And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus.” (ESV).

Say what? The angel says this One will be the Messiah! Naturally Mary’s asking, “I’m not married yet… how’s this happening?” The angel says that the power of God will overshadow her – God’s going to work a miracle! Mary’s “yes” to God put her at risk not only of divorce, but stoning for having supposedly slept with another man before her wedding. Yet God protected her! The gospels show us instead that Mary’s willingness led her to the stable in Bethlehem, the land of Egypt, the hill of Golgotha watching her son die on the cross, and the resurrection three days later! Sometimes God’s plan sounds crazy, and it might seem crazy to go along with it. The challenge, however, is not to be normal. Instead ask, “is this your will Jesus” and then walk in that, even if it does seem crazy.

February is a cold month. It’s a bit short, and sometimes a little depressing! But I believe God’s lighting a fire in us in these cold months; In you, in LGT, in our communities. God is doing amazing, maybe even crazy things in our area. He’s looking for crazy people like us to join Him. Will you go with Him? Start dreaming with Jesus, asking what He wants to see happen in this area of Saskatchewan. The answer may seem a little surprising, maybe even crazy. Maybe, just maybe, we need to step out in the crazy anyway – like Mary – and allow God to use us. I pray you will be willing to do just that as we move forward together.

May God bless you and your families this February!
